CAONA

In the Taíno recorded language, the word 'caona’ is believed to mean ‘gold.’

With “Caona” we learn a common language through shapes and patterns. These artistic expressions were our ancestors’ written language—a visual portal into their everyday lives, traditions and rituals.  Highly stylized lineal graphics, deformed curves, undulating lines and triangular and straight edges that turn into sinuous shapes and abstractions—these mysterious symbols and detailed patterns that adorn their objects honor the object itself.

Images were language and patterns provided stories.
